Description

Freddie Mercury

Sketch of all four members of Queen in Cavalier costume,

one member seated and holding a lute, also with two dogs, captioned "Dearie Me", black ink, 1 page, 190 x 125mm, c.1972

"Dearie Me" was a phrase that came so frequently from the lips of producer Roy Thomas Baker that it was considered as a tentative title for Queen's debut album. This previously unseen drawing shows the band in lavish Cavalier costume of the 17th century, well suited to the extravagant locks that all four members of the band sported in the early 70s. The sketch may well represent a concept by Freddie for album artwork.
