This chest's vitality originates from the cabinetmakers use of wood grain to accentuate the verticality of the chest. A closely related diminutive chest with a split top drawer is in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (Alexandra Alevizatos Kirtley, American Furniture 1650-1840: Highlights from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, (New Haven, CT: Yale University Press, 2020), p. 62, no. 24).
