Property of a Gentleman
A pair of Sèvres bleu céleste bottle coolers, 1764
seau à bouteille ordinaire 1ere grandeur, with shell and scroll moulded handles, painted with sprays of flowers and fruits within gilt scrolled cartouches enclosing diaper pattern sections and suspending swags of leaves and flowers, blue interlaced Ls marks enclosing date letter L, painter's marks of a branch for Jean-Baptiste Noualhier l'aîné
18.5cm. high, 7 1/4 in.
Panshanger , Hertfordshire, possibly William, 3rd Earl Cowper or a descendant;
Thence by descent to the present owner.
Jean-Baptiste Noualhier is recorded as a flower painter at the Vincennes and Sèvres manufactory from 1753-54 and 1757-66.
