A Rare Pair of Mintons Pâte-sur-Pâte Olive Green-Ground Rectangular Vases, 1882
Decorated by Henry Hollins, signed with H.H monogram in white slip, each with a putto seated on a continuous gilt-edged carnelian red brick garden wall, among large multi-coloured slip flowers, the olive-green ground enriched with raised gilt-stars, the versos each with a differently modelled white vase filled with flowering plants, upon a separate Japonisme-style pierced foot, crowned globe MINTONS marks in gold, impressed MINTON. mark, incised numeral 2343, impressed cross or X symbol, one with letter J, date code for 1882

In 1873, Henry Hollins began his artistic career at Minton as an apprentice to Louis Solon. A second pair of this rare vase shape, decorated in pâte-sur-pâte with flowers dated for 1892, appeared at auction at DuMouchelle Art Gallery, Detroit, September 15-17, 2017, lot 1020.
