At Baselworld 2019, Patek Philippe unveiled a new complication in their current collection of “Grand Complications”: The Alarm Travel Time reference 5520P. This timepiece boasts a totally new self-winding movement, the caliber AL 30-660, which took 5 years of research and development. Composed of 574 parts and conceived explicitly for this timepiece, the travel time paired with a very unique alarm innovation is as legible and user-friendly as a collector could possibly dream of.

In terms of design, this reference represents a clear shift for Patek Philippe and is reminiscent of another Patek Philippe watch, the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time. Inspired by aviators’ style and adding a touch of sportiness into the collection of Grand Complications, this masterpiece is made for serious travelers. On the left side of the case, there are two push buttons (+ and -) used to adjust the local time, and they are twist-lock protected.

On the right side of the case, two more buttons are situated, one at the 2 o’clock position for turning the alarm on and off, and the other at 4 o'clock for controlling the 3 positions winding and setting the alarm and home time hands. The alarm on/off indicator is a small bell-shaped aperture located below 12 o’clock that is white when the alarm is active and can be set in 15-minute increments, and dark when the alarm is off. The large applied Arabic numerals and the broad baton hands – all in white gold with a white Superluminova coating – contrast well against the sunburst ebony black background. The watch is water-resistant to 30 meters.

This example is offered in its service-sealed pouch and full accompaniments, including its Certificate of Origin and presentation box.
