Hermann Heindrich

The German artist Hermann Hendrich, who died in 1931, belonged to that generation of Symbolist painters, draught.mes n and engravers who were particularly influenced by Wagner.
Most of Hendrich’s works were drawn from the Wagnerian imaginary. One of his greatest creations was the cycle of twelve canvasses inspired by the Ring and produced for the Nibelungenhalle in the town of Drachenfels in 1913.
Wagner was probably also the source for the present canvas, The Valley of Flames, a mysterious landscape that surely bears a relation to Brünnhilde’s tomb.

L’artiste allemand Hermann Hendrich fait partie de cette génération de peintres, dessinateurs et graveurs symbolistes qui ont été particulièrement marqué par Wagner.

La majeure partie des œuvres d’Hendrich, mort en 1931, sont tiré de l’imaginaire wagnérien. L’une de ses plus grandes créations est ainsi le cycle de douze toiles inspirées du Ring et exécuté pour la Nibelungenhalle de la ville de Drachenfells en 1913.

C’est probablement encore chez Wagner qu’il faut chercher la source de la présente toile, La Vallée de Flammes, un paysage mystérieux qui doit sans doute être mis en relation avec le tombeau de Brünehilde.
