the salver engraved with accolé arms, marked on base and engraved John Corporan; the strainer with openwork strapwork handles, fully marked inside bowl and with city mark only below each handle

John Corporan, son of a naturalized citizen, was apprenticed to Lewis Mettayer 24 May 1709. He entered his mark 2 April 1717. Arthur Grimwade notes in London Silversmiths, 1697-1837 that his work is rare.
