Description
Henry Clay Rare Bourbon 16 Year Old 90.6 Proof 1980
Distilled in the Fall of 1980, bottle #1069 of 2400, proof of authenticity RB1, hairline crack surrounds capsule
In an attempt to jumpstart interest in luxury American whiskey, in 1997 United Distillers (today Diageo) announced a new line of releases called the Rare Bourbon collection. First in line was a pair of bourbons, Henry Clay 16 Year Old and Joseph Finch 15 Year Old. Both came from the Old Bernheim Distillery, which United had recently replaced with a gleaming new facility. Despite the exquisite quality of the whiskey, its high price point turned away too many customers, and the Rare Bourbon collection got the ax. Only 2,400 bottles of Henry Clay were filled, making it quite a rare find today.
