Caroline Kent’s works speculate on both the potential and the limitations of language, and ultimately questions the modernist canon of abstraction. Her work is noted for the complex abstract geometric vocabulary she has developed, which lends a cryptic air to paintings that hover between figuration and abstraction. Kent’s pastel-heavy palette belies the tension that her compositions evoke, addressing figure, form, and space both as adversaries and in harmony.

Exhibitions of Kent’s work include those at the Figge Art Museum, Davenport; Casey Kaplan, New York; and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
