For his multiplicateur d'art, Spoerri created a witty variant of his snare pictures, mounting two square mirrors on wood panels that are attached by a hinge. In nearly symmetrical arrangements, he glued harmonica, bottle openers, children's block, pins, nails, coins, and other found objects to the mirrors. As he explained " In the art multiplier, a chance situation is fixed to a mirror, and the same situation is reflected into another mirror joined to the first by hinges. In addition the objects are reflected and multiplied in proportion to the angle at which the mirrors are set" [Daniel Spoerri, "An anecdote Topography of Chance (Re-Anecdoted Version) with Robert Filliou and Emmett Williams", New York Something Press, 1966, p. 82)] Each work in the series is unique, as the objects glued to the mirrors and their specific orientation are always different.
