Patek Philippe’s coin watches rank among the brand’s most inventive and collectible creations, uniting technical mastery with refined elegance. Crafted from genuine gold coins, each example required remarkable precision to hollow the coin while preserving its original surfaces, concealing within a hinged inner case containing the movement and dial.

Produced from the late 1920s through the 1980s, only around 200 examples were made across references 800 to 809, using various denominations including the US $5, $10, and $20 coins, CHF 100, and 50 Pesos. Some rare versions featured skeletonized movements, reflecting the brand’s enduring spirit of innovation.

The present reference 802 is crafted from a United States Twenty Dollar coin dated 1924 and houses the manual-wind calibre 96 movement beneath a champagne-coloured dial with elegant Breguet numerals. It is a rare occurrence to find this reference fitted with the calibre 96, as production transitioned to the calibre 175 from 1963 onwards—making this one of the final examples to feature this earlier movement.

A rare and captivating expression of Patek Philippe’s creativity, this coin watch embodies discreet luxury and stands as an important piece of horological history.
