47.3 x 36.2 cm., 18⅝ x 14¼ in.

After resigning from his position as an interpreter at the French embassy in Tokyo in 1920, Jacoulet pursued an artistic career through the medium of woodblock printing. He travelled extensively to the South Seas, which became a major source of inspiration for much of his work. Jacoulet always acted as his own publisher, exercising a high degree of control over the printing process and personally supervised the pulling of every print - only prints for which he had subscription orders were printed.

Jacoulet became a favourite among leading figures such as Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), General Douglas MacArthur (1880 – 5 April 1964), Pope Pius XII (1876-1958), Harry S. Truman (1884-1972) and Greta Garbo (1905-1990).
