A MARBLE CINERARY URN INSCRIBED FOR LUCIUS VERSENUS PAULINUS, 1ST/2ND CENTURY A.D.


of cylindrical form, carved with strigillations flanking a tabula ansata engraved with three lines of Latin inscriptions reading D(is) M(anibus) / L(uci) Verseni / Paulini ("To the spirits of the Departed of Lucius Versenus Paulinus,") the splayed lid ornamented with overlapping pointed leaves radiating from a baluster finial.


Height with lid 48; without lid 31.5 cm.
