A MARBLE CINERARY URN INSCRIBED FOR LUCIUS VERSENUS PAULINUS, 1ST/2ND CENTURY A.D.
of cylindrical form, carved with strigillations flanking a tabula ansata engraved with three lines of Latin inscriptions reading D(is) M(anibus) / L(uci) Verseni / Paulini ("To the spirits of the Departed of Lucius Versenus Paulinus,") the splayed lid ornamented with overlapping pointed leaves radiating from a baluster finial.
Height with lid 48; without lid 31.5 cm.
found in Nazzazo in December 1807 by Matteo Cruciani, "in the wooded area called "Monte Mancino"
recorded in Terracina before 1884 by Marie René de la Blanchère, in the gardens of the Antonelli family
