Acquired subsequently by the present owner.

This composition closely relates to paintings by De Coninck in the Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid,1 the Palazzo Reale, Genoa,2 and a work that sold at Dorotheum in 2016 for €62,500.3 Another variation of the composition, with a dog at right and differences among the fowl at lower centre, was previously in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, before being destroyed in 1943.4
