based on Meissonnier's design, resting on ovolo spreading stand, the baluster body chased and embossed with a scene representing Poseidon and a putto ridding a dolphin, surmounted by a cartouche embossed with the Royal coat-of-arms of France and garlands of flowers, the two handles formed by bifid mermaids carrying two stylised dolphins
