The archives and special collects ions held by General Motors document the centuries long history of GM as a corporation and as a cultural entity.
In addition to documents and literature, the archives also house a global archive of historical photography, motion picture film, video and digital media. The archive was established in 1993 and built on the foundations laid by the GM Photographic division which dates to 1920.
GM Photographic was created to document the development, manufacturing and promotion of General Motors products as well as its events, facilities and leadership. The millions of photographic images and hours of motion picture footage comprises a significate portion of GM's archives and special collects ions today with more than 8 million photographic images, 220,000 video masters, 25,000 motion picture films and 1.5 million digital media files.
The present Reference 96 features a charming engraving on the case back of 'GM Photographic' for a Mr. 'Richard B. Collick 1930-1955' likely commemorating Mr. Collick's tenure at the firm.
