VICE PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES

VINTAGE BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPH OF THE CAPITOL BUILDING (9 1/2 X 7 1/2 IN.; 240 X 190 MM), SIGNED ON BOTTOM HALF BY SEVEN VICE PRESIDENTS. MATTED AND FRAMED

The only constitutional duty of the Vice President (apart from succeeding to the presidency in the event of the President's death or resignation) is to preside over the Senate. The Capitol Building makes a highly appropriate background for the signatures of the seven men who filled the office of Vice President from 1933 to 1969: "Harry Truman" | "Jno. N. Garner" | "Alben W. Barkley" | "Henry A Wallace" | "Lyndon B. Johnson" | "Richard Nixon" | "Hubert H Humphrey."

Three of the signatories, of course, did become President, two by succession.
