A Polish silver trophy centrepiece jardiniere, Hempel Brothers, Warsaw, circa 1949


Modelled as a stylised Viking ship crashing through waves, a shield on either side engraved 'Prague Warsaw' and 'Warsaw May 1949', the base engraved with a race presentation insription, with a removable brass liner,

55cm., 21 ½in. long

2801gr., 90oz.

The inscription reads: 'Nagroda Prezydenta Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej dla najlepszej druzyny w ii miedzynarodowym wyscigu kolarskim Praga Warszawa organizowanym prezez redakcje trybuny ludu Rudeho Prava'. This translates to 'An award from the President of the republic of Poland for the best team in the Second International Cycling Race from Prague to Warsaw, organized by the editorial staff  of Rude Pravo (the official newspaper of the Polish Communist Party of Czechoslovakia).
