of square section with a lion and ball finial, pierced and moulded with fretwork panels within brightly coloured diaper pattern borders, blue crossed swords and star mark, Pressnummer 58

This censer is derived from a Chinese prototype from the Qing dynasty, which in turn owes much to archaistic bronze vessels.  Many early Meisssen stoneware and porcelain forms were copied from Chinese and Japanese porcelain in the Royal and Electoral collection of Augustus the Strong.
