8vo (9 x 5 1/2 in.; 228 x 140 mm). Half-title, mezzotint frontispiece portrait of Andrew Fletcher printed in bistre; minor spotting and offsetting. Original marbled boards, paper label to spine, some edges uncut, overall rubbed. Custom slipcase.
First edition in original boards. A rare Burns item. This work contains a printed letter by Robert Burns, as well as his poem on James Thomson, consisting of five 4-line stanzas (pp. 244-8).
