The view of the present work is from Newborough Warren on the southern tip of Anglesey looking across the entrance of the Menai Strait towards Yr Eifl on the north Lleyn peninsula. In 1875 Brett spent three months drawing and painting views from Anglesey before returning to his studio at 38 Harley Street.
