A Meissen Chinoiserie Handled-Beaker and Stand, Circa 1730
painted with Chinoiserie figures at various pursuits, the small beaker with a continuous scene around the rim, the stand within two concentric circles in iron-red, each with gilt-fluted bands, and gilt-scrollwork at the rims, the underside of the stand with Kakiemon sprigs and banded hedge, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue, impressed Dreher's mark ** to inside edge of footrim of saucer
diameter of stand 4 3/4 in., 12.2 cm
Sotheby's Scientific Research department used noninvasive XRF for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected.
