Description
of scratch cross-type, plain round shape, painted after a Chinese famille rose original with two long-tailed pheasants, one standing on top of blue forked and pierced rockwork, the other in front of it, amongst large flowering branches of chrysanthemum and peonies, repeated on the verso design repeated on the reverse, the same rockwork and flowers painted on the cover, and a small flowering branch painted on the spout.

The most comparable piece is a small coffeepot and cover, which was in the Selwyn Parkinson Collection, sold, Replica Shoes 's London, March 29, 1966, lot 8. The piece then was subsequently in the collection of Mrs F Shand Kydd and the John P. Raison collection, sold, Christie's London, November 2, 1998, lot 97, before selling in the R. David Butti Collection at Bonhams London, May 10, 2006, lot 26 (£ 32,400, $ 40,451).
In 1887, a trio painted in this pattern was acquired by the British Museum, London, mus. nos. 1887-0307-V-60/61. A saucer dish is illustrated in Simon Spero, Twenty Five Years, English Porcelain Enamels 1744-1775, exh. cat., 1989, no. 27. A coffee cup and saucer, is illustrated in Albert Amor, Treasures from Toronto II, 18th Century English Porcelain, London 1994, pp. 12-12, cat no. 12.
