This panoramic view of the bay of Naples is taken from Capodimonte looking down onto the Real Albergo dei Poveri. Also known as the Reclusorio, it is one of the landmarks of the city of Naples, designed by the celebrated architect Ferdinando Fuga (1699–1782) and one of the largest buildings of 18th-century Europe. The project was commissioned by Charles III of Spain, King of Naples (1716–1788) in 1751 as a public hospital and accommodation to house the poor of the city.
