Meiji period, late 19th century
the large vase of ovoid form with copper gilt rim and silver foot ring, worked in silver and gold wire and coloured enamels on a dark blue enamel ground, with finely delineated butterflies among blossoming chrysanthemums, the leaves in shaded (bokashi) enamels, the everted rim bordered with floral lozenges and kikko, the rim with cherry blossom flowers above foliate scrolls, the foot similarly decorated with a band of hanabishishippo
