modelled after the Warwick Vase, the covers chased with a band of acanthus and palm and with heraldic demi-lion finials, engraved with contemporary arms twice on the feet and covers

fully marked, the finials with maker's mark of Benjamin Smith II, one numbered 4 and the other with body #3 and cover #2

The arms are those of Peel. The family were baronets and textile manufacturing pioneers. The finial is the family crest of a demi-lion holding a shuttle.


A soup tureen from this service was sold by Replica Shoes 's, New York, October, 21, 1997, lot 180 for $62,500. Its pair was sold by Lyon & Turner, London, November 23, 2008, lot 148 for £25,000.
