the base and cover enameled with bouquets of flowers on periwinkle ground, the sides with twelve oval vignettes of views of the Bosphorus and Switzerland, ten including ships, one Mosque and one chalet, within white interlaced ribbons, the cover mounted with a gold panel with the Tugra, within a row of large old mine diamonds flanked by rows of rose diamonds, the rim also set with rose diamonds, the hinged cover with waved bezel

marked on interior rim with maker’s mark, marked inside base with pseudo-English hallmarks comprising leopard’s head crowned, king’s head, duty mark, lion passant, and date letter (lower case)

length 3¼ in.

Wartski, London, 25 May 1977. The receipt notes "The base of the box applied with 'English prestige marks' seemingly this is the only example of such marks recorded.”

The Tugra is probably that of Sultan Abdulmejid, 1839-1861.
