Audemars Piguet has confirmed that the present watch was sold to Vacheron Constantin in 1960.

This watch draws on the classic mid-century aesthetic that was so becoming to the dial of a perpetual calendar and effortlessly combines this with the modernist, clean and sharp, pared down feel that would be popularised during the 1960s. Interestingly the dial's design aesthetics are reminiscent of three well-known reference 5516 perpetual calendar wristwatches that were delivered by Audemars Piguet to Vacheron Constantin in 1959, the year before the present watch was sold (for an example of a 5516, see Replica Shoes 's Geneva, 16 November 2004, lot 138 and M. Friedman & S. Vivas, Audemars Piguet: 20th Century Complicated Wristwatches, 2018, pp.130-131). Like the three 5516 models supplied to Vacheron Constantin, the present watch was not signed by Vacheron Constantin and is signed by Audemars Piguet throughout case, dial and movement.

For another version of the Ref. 5512 but with Arabic rather than baton hour indexes, see Replica Shoes 's New York, 10 June 2013, lot 245. Interestingly the latter watch was numbered 32712, sequentially the number preceding the present watch.
