Description

circular, in commemoration of the first Silesian War, the lid probably depicting Frederick the Great seated on horseback commanding his troops in the siege of the city of Neisse, the exterior painted with a continuous battle scene above four oval panels of camp scenes painted en camaïeu rose against a gilt scrollwork band, the base painted with another scene of a victorious Frederick and his fellow soldiers on horseback with the town of Neisse ablaze in the background, the lid interior finely painted with Athena representing Prussia surrounded by allegorical ladies in waiting representing the Arts by Johann Jacob Wagner, Arithmetic holding a stone tablet bearing the sum totalling 1741 above the signature J. Wagner, the interior of the base gilt, with reeded gold mounts and thumbpiece engraved with flowers and foliage,
