all white with gilt rims, the borders of the dinner and soup plates centring the Zubov family crests, the cavettos of the dessert place with matching décor, comprising six dinner plates, six soup plates and six dessert plates, marked on the undersides with Imperial cyphers of Alexander II

The arms are those of Zubov, created Counts of the H.R.E. 7th February 1793. See, Rietstap, Armorial General, vol II, p. 865. Platon Alexandrovich Zubov (1767-1822) was the last favorite of Catherine II. In 1789 he held thirteen government portfolios. He was a prime figure in the conspiracy against Paul I.
