Sapphire and diamond bracelet, Köchli, 1870s

Set with cabochon sapphires and cushion-shaped diamonds, length approximately 180mm, Imperial Russian maker's mark for Köchli.

Swiss-born Friedrich Köchli (1838-1909) was one of the most prominent jewellers of Imperial Russia. He was court purveyor to Tsars Alexander III and Nicholas II as well as holder of letters patent from several Grand Dukes. In 1894, Köchli realized an elaborate sapphire and diamond parure for the Russian Crown Jewels at the bequest of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. Today Köchli, together with other Imperial jewellers who were for a long time completely overshadowed by Fabergé, is being rediscovered by collectors and researchers alike.
