Herrmann notes in regard to this rug “A rare design departing from traditional rules as it does not have contour lines defining given areas. The green field shows an amount of colour changes and so-called lazy lines which have nothing to do with the working process; on the contrary they define a cosmic level in the path between the two worlds, here half way the major standstill of the moon through the angular system 6 x ∠1:7. The red ground tree-like motifs, and two in yellow are based on angle 4 x ∠1:7, altogether 59 motifs, or 1⁄6 of a moon year. Two opposed motifs in the upper part follow the shape of triangle 8:15:17, creating a door effect while the large yellow figure is based on a mirror image triangle 5:12:13. Both triangles mentioned have their origin in the cartography of the Orion constellation. So from a new approach to the interpretation of carpet and textile art on the basis of mathematical data deduced from the observation of the heavens, the conclusion it is not far fetched that we are looking at the Golden door of the ecliptic and the place of the heavenly scale.”
