The Day-Date mexer stops to amaze with its wide variety of configurations. The present example is special for two distinct reasons: it feature a bark finish on the bezel and center link of the bracelet and it features a red dégradé lacquer dial.
The bark finish is a configuration that rarely appeared on Rolex watches. The fluted bezel has always been a much better known configuration, making this example quite exceptional.
Moreover, the watch feature a dégradé dial. This technique required a high level of skill from the dial maker who had to apply a light cloud of lacquer, which was spray on the dial progressively.
These two different features would make a watch special, but the fact that the present timepiece features both makes it a true collector's item.
