THE RARE LIMITED EDITION ARTIST'S PROOF DOCUMENTING RACHEL WHITEREAD'S GROUNDBREAKING "HOUSE" PROJECT OF THE 1990s.
In 1993 Rachel Whiteread created a monumental concrete and plaster cast of an entire house in the East End of London, in advance of its demolition in January 1994. The sculpture, which was on view when she won the Turner Prize, attracted in the region of 3000 visitors the day before it was demolished. This artist's book chronicles the creation and evolution of the sculpture, up until the time of its demolition. Critical essays are provided by Jon Bird, Doreen Massey, Iain Sinclair, Richard Shone, Neil Thomas, Anthony Vidler and Simon Watney.
PROVENANCE:
Patrick T. Murphy, former Director of the ICA, Philadelphia, and curator of the artist's first exhibition in America in 1994
