A silver-gilt standing cup and cover of the St George’s guild of Middelburg Crossbowmen
Jan Smit, Middelburg, 1601
The circular base, rising to a bracketed stem and vase body applied with lion masks enclosing three chased cartouches of St George and the Dragon, the Cross of St George and an image of a crossbow, the cover chased and embossed with Bacchus, Ceres, Venus and Cupid, surmounted by finial of St George, chased throughout and applied with masks, also struck with a 1795 Middelburg control mark.
