The current lot is one of many works by Maqbool Fida Husain which reveals his debt to China and its art forms. During his visits there, Husain was deeply influenced by Chinese flat line ink paintings, a practice which melded into his unique style. The artist also learnt Chinese scripture, as revealed here by his use of seal script, spelling out ‘Husain’ in the bottom right of the composition. The use of gold and auspicious red, enhances the bold jagged lines of the current composition’s lot, creating a vibrant piece synonymous with Husain’s unique visual language.
