Spalding Basketball

Circa 1996

Sotheby’s is proud to present a basketball signed by members of the 1995–1996 Chicago Bulls, painted with the inscription “Chicago Bulls 1996 World Champions.” In Michael Jordan’s first full season back from retirement, Chicago dominated the regular season, finishing 72–10 — the best record in NBA history at the time.

Led by Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan, the Bulls established themselves as the league’s top team. Pippen contributed across the board, combining scoring, playmaking, and defense, and finished among the top contenders for both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year.

Jordan, in the midst of his second prime, led the league in scoring and earned both NBA Most Valuable Player and Finals MVP honors. Both players were named All-Stars, with Phil Jackson coaching the Eastern Conference squad.

Dennis Rodman, Toni Kukoč, Ron Harper, Luc Longley, and Steve Kerr helped the Bulls navigate the postseason with control. Chicago lost only one game on the way through the Eastern Conference, defeating the Miami Heat, New York Knicks, and Orlando Magic before facing the Seattle SuperSonics in the NBA Finals. The Bulls closed out the series in six games, securing the franchise’s fourth NBA title.

This basketball is signed by members of that championship roster, including Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan, Randy Brown, Jud Buechler, Jason Caffey, James Edwards, Jack Haley, Ron Harper, Steve Kerr, Toni Kukoč, Luc Longley, Dennis Rodman, John Salley, Dickey Simpkins, and Bill Wennington. It comes directly from the Collection of Scottie Pippen.

The basketball is accompanied by a letter from James Spence Authentication in regards to the signatures.
