SPALDING BASKETBALL

Circa 1992

Sotheby’s is pleased to present this basketball signed by every player who participated in the 1992 NBA All-Star Game, held in Orlando, Florida. The early 1990s marked a moment when the NBA’s influence was expanding rapidly, and the All-Star Game served as a showcase for the league’s brightest talents at the height of that rise.

At the center of the event were the defending champion Chicago Bulls, represented by Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. By this point, Pippen had established himself as one of the league’s most complete players, combining elite defense, playmaking, and versatility. Already a multiple-time All-Star and All-Defensive Team selection, he had become essential to Chicago’s championship foundation and emblematic of the modern two-way forward.

The full roster reflects an extraordinary cross-section of basketball history. Dominant big men such as Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Karl Malone, and Patrick Ewing defined an era built around interior play, while stars like Clyde Drexler, Chris Mullin, and James Worthy highlighted the league’s depth across positions. Magic Johnson’s appearance carried special significance, marking his final All-Star Game and culminating in an MVP performance that added a historic dimension to the night.

Signed by every player who took the floor, this basketball bears the autographs of Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan, Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Michael Adams, Brad Daugherty, Joe Dumars, Reggie Lewis, Mark Price, Dennis Rodman, Dominique Wilkins, Kevin Willis, Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Chris Mullin, Karl Malone, David Robinson, Tim Hardaway, Jeff Hornacek, Dan Majerle, Dikembe Mutombo, Hakeem Olajuwon, John Stockton, Otis Thorpe, and James Worthy.

This basketball comes directly from the Collection of Scottie Pippen.

The basketball is also accompanied by a letter from James Spence Authentication in regards to the signatures.
