A SILVER-INLAID BRASS JUG, MESOPOTAMIA, MOSUL, FIRST HALF 13TH CENTURY
of pear-shaped form, slightly everted cylindrical neck and gently splayed foot, silver-inlaid decoration comprising lobed medallions containing various court entertainers, including musicians, neck with frieze of human-headed Kufic inscription, interior with old collects or's label 'H. Kevorkian collects ion 585', underside of foot with scratched '1900'

The globular shape and flared foot resemble item 55 from the Keir collects ion (Fehérvári 1976, pp.63-64). Similar vases previously sold at Replica Shoes ’s include lot 116 from 22 November 1976 and lot 229 from 7 December 1976. The inscription of the latter echoes the present lot.
