8vo (129 x 83mm.), title within woodcut border [McKerrow & Ferguson 56] with Edward Whitchurch's initials at foot of border, woodcut initials, later calf, with prayers and meditations added at the end in a mid-sixteenth century hand, 17 pages, and a loose fragment from a manuscript of liturgical music (an antiphonal) inserted at end (removed from the previous binding), title-leaf somewhat soiled, final leaf of manuscript text defective at fore-edge, joints cracked, extremities rubbed
One of several printings of this work in 1550, though it was originally published in Zurich in 1548 while Hooper was in exile on the Continent. He returned to England in 1549 after the accession of Edward VI but was imprisoned and burnt at the stake shortly after Mary took the throne.
