Private collects ion, Rome.

This painting carries an Edward Lear signature, and indeed certain aspects of the painting, particularly the far horizon line, do bear some similarity to his work. Lear travelled in Italy between 1838 and 1848, and returned to Rome in 1859. In the list of his paintings that Lear himself drew up in 1877, he lists seven views of 'Rome. Claudian Acqueduct' dating to these years.1
