8vo. Half-title, inscribed by Carver on the title-page. Original grey cloth-backed boards, dust jacket pictorially printed in black and grey; a few stray spots to endleaves.
First edition, presentation copy, inscribed to fellow short story writer Andre Dubus: "Raymond Carver, February 4, 1984, For Andre Dubus with admiration, Ray."
Raymond Carver won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for Cathedral, and the collection is generally regarded as his most accomplished work. The volume offers the award-winning stories "A Small, Good Thing" and "Where I'm Calling From." The former won the O. Henry Award in 1983 (one of five that Carver would earn).
An exceptional association copy.
