12mo. Minor toning, minor spotting, contemporary ownership inscription to endleaf. Original textured dark green cloth, covers stamped in blind with central wreath motif, spine gilt lettered with floral motif, brown coated endpapers; minor rubbing to edges, nick to head of spine, small tear and rubbing to front free endpaper.
One of Thoreau's "excursion books," the present volume contains the essays "Ktaadn," "Chesuncook," and "The Allegash and East Branch." Additionally, it includes a brief appendix that contains Thoreau's notes on the varieties of plants and animals one might encounter in the Maine woods, as well as some suggestions about proper attire for the region, and a helpful glossary of Native American phrases.
