Folio (10 ¾ x 7 ¼ in.; 270 x 185 mm). Printers device on title-page, woodcut borders, initials, head- and tail-pieces; some dampstaining and browning throughout, particularly to gatherings O-Q, a few rust holes, upper margins from gathering AA on a bit frayed and soiled, generally not affecting text. Contemporary limp vellum, covers stamped "TM" with a floral device; vellum stained and worn, lacking two pairs of ties, defective endpapers.
The second edition in English of Gentillet's famous anti-Machiavelli book, first published in Latin in Geneva in 1576 in response to The Prince.
