of truncated conical form with straight flaring walls and short foot, decorated in brown, olive green and ochre slips on a cream slip ground with a large composite palmette with sgraffito details, smaller stylised palmettes, geometric details and peacock-eye filler motifs

The striking and bold motifs on this intact bowl are offset by a runny glaze creating an effect of immediacy and action. A number of bowls with variants on this decoration were excavated in Nishapur, Persia (see Wilkinson 1973, p.146 no.3 and p.147, nos.5a &b).
