The majestic Untitled (2019) is a dazzling example of the self-taught artist Ayako Rokkaku’s rainbow fantasy worlds, rich in both texture and colour. Working intuitively, Rokkaku uses her fingers and hands to apply acrylic paint to canvas, beautifully layering her visceral curls to create chromatic wonderlands, intriguing and beguiling the viewer in her childlike, wondrous imagery. The present work is uncommon in Rokkaku’s eviction of her signature wide-eyed little girl motif, instead littering her vast, multicoloured landscape with an array of charming yet ambiguous creatures, that could be anything from ducks to red-outlined piglets. The present work is full of life, the depiction of a radiant world that is in full bloom.

Born in 1982 in the town of Chiba, roughly 40 kilometres from the centre of Tokyo, Ayako Rokkaku has since become one of the most in-demand Japanese contemporary artists working today. In 2003, her inclusion in the Geisai art fair, founded by Takashi Murakami’s studio Kaikai Kiki, effectively launched her career, and the artist has gone on to exhibit internationally. Recently the artist has been honoured with multiple significant solo exhibitions, including Born in the Fluffy Journey at König Galerie, Berlin (26 June - 25 July 2021) and Phantom Thief Stray Junkie at Gallery Trax, Yamanashi (27 March - 11 April 2021).

六角彩子1982年生於距離東京四十公里的千葉市，是日本目前炙手可熱的當代藝術家。2003年，她在村上隆設立的Kaikai Kiki公司所主辦的「藝祭」上初試啼聲後，創作生涯漸上軌道，並開始到海外各地辦展，包括近期一些重要個展，例如柏林國王畫廊的「生於毛絨絨的旅程」（2021年6月26日至7月25日）以及山梨縣卓克思畫廊的「魅影空空兒 流浪癮君子」（2021年3月27日至4月11日）。
