The present set of wall appliques with three candlearms are reminiscent of a design by Philippe Caffiéri which he made in 1768 and signed `Inventé et executé par P. Caffiéri Sculpteur et Ciseleur du Roy, a Paris' and is now at the University Library of Warshau (nr. BUW 375, fig.1). Six gilt-bronze examples exactly replicating the design were made at the t.mes and delivered for the Audience Room at the Palace in Warshau, now at the National Museum of Warshau (inv. no. SZM 401/1-6 - discussed in H. Ott.mes yer and Peter Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Vol. I, p. 189, fig. 3.10)
Philippe Caffiéri (1714-1774), elected maître-fondeur-ciseleur in 1743 and appointed doreur-damasquineur suivant la Cour et Conseils de sa Majesté. He was appointed sculpteur-ciseleur ordinaire du Roi in 1755.
