W
edhar Riyadi’s painting series around 2012 to 2018 combines his interest in pop culture and realism photography. For a few years, he investigated how technology had changed the way people see visual exposures such as photographs, posters, advertisements, and many others. In The Dancer, a female figure in a traditional Bali cost.mes
and hairdo is painted over with comical figures. The defined and vibrant colours applied with subtle brushstrokes to hairline details create a piece that invites audiences to engage in their imagination in experiencing the work. The current work questions the meaning of art by juxtaposing imageries derived from the past and present.
