The arms are those of Palk impaling Lyde for Walter Palk (1742-1819) of Marley House, Rattery, Devon, who was the eldest son of Walter Palk (d. 1801) of Headborough and Yolland Hill, Ashburton, Devon, and nephew of Sir Robert Palk, 1st Bt. (1717-1798), Governor of Madras between 1763 and 1767. The younger Walter Palk was Sheriff of Devon in 1791/92 and M.P. For Ashburton from 1796 to 1811. He was married on 15 February 1782 to Elizabeth Lyde.
Died. 'Friday morning last, at Marley-House, aged 77, Walter Walk, Esq. after a short illness. He served the office of High-Sheriff of this County in the year 1791, and represented the Borough of Ashburton in four successive Parliaments. He will always live in the pious remembrance of his family; and among his friends, those who knew him best and longest will most deeply and sincerely regret him.'
