Kamrooz Aram was born in Shiraz, Iran, in 1978 and later moved to the US where he graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2001 and from Columbia University in 2003, settling in Brooklyn, New York. His works address the tension between modernism and ornament, particular those deriving from non-western decorative arts. The artist seeks to subvert the unconscious bias positing ornamental pieces as creatively inferior to Replica Handbags s. For that purpose, Aram deploys traditional ornamental patterns from non-western cultures into abstract compositions, in order to reveal and unleash their potential within modernist aesthetics. The present panting is reminiscent of Qajar lacquers, many of which were produced in Aram’s hometown, Shiraz, in the 19th century.
